9U, 10U, 11U, 12U & 13U
The Squirrels are kids playing anywhere from 9U-13U. There is no need to burn anybody out or jump to conclusions with who they are as a baseball player until they are closer to 18-25 years old. This is a positive in our eyes as we can let them have fun playing the game and teaching it to them as we move along. We believe that everyone should have an opportunity to play every position, including pitching, however they do have to earn their spot. This is where the competitive side comes into play. We offer a setting where there will be healthy competition with limited rosters to encourage multiple positions to be played. We do things a bit different and ask that you allow us to earn your trust in what being a Squirrel is all about.
To be a Squirrel, you do not simply make the team. To be a Squirrel you a part of a family. We offer a competitive experience in baseball that requires a 100% commitment from families and players. We try to keep everything as affordable as possible with tournament fees, umpires, field rental, coaching, and the overall experience for the kids. We were able to generate a tremendous support system after just a couple years of developing. We started in 2020 as Valley Center Baseball then developed into the Valley Center Squirrels in 2021. We wanted to tie into the Padres color scheme for our local Padres fans! Sorry Dodgers Fans, but if you want to be a part of the Squirrel family, you will need to wear the brown & gold. You will learn to love it!
Each player will learn how to be accountable with various "homework" assignments ranging from defining baseball terms to teams reading Heads Up Baseball with chapter reviews before practice to correlate what they read to their game and to their life. We work on life priorities and what it means to put family first. We do things a little different and if it is not for you, that is perfectly fine! At times, we will also play football in the outfield prior to championship games to get loose. The kids have asked for a better experience and to have fun. We do our best to deliver. We also have a team bus!
We start practicing in August. IF (and we mean IF) the teams are ready to start playing games in September, we will. The reps and development the kids will gain from a practice setting will prepare them for game situations. Practices, games, and tournaments go until December and potentially January. We are big believers in playing with their friends and developing relationships outside of just the Squirrel family, so it is recommended that every Squirrel plays Little League, once Little League starts in February, if they want to keep playing baseball. Some of our age groups may elect to play Squirrels throughout the year if the interest it there with a mix and not affecting their Little League teams.
We love everything about the Squirrels and what being a Squirrel represents. We know that this will not be for everyone, but for anyone looking to have a fun time learning the game of baseball and developing as a person, then we welcome you to the scurry! We do not get caught up with the mechanical cookie cutter approaches. We meet each individual where they are at with their skill set. We help develop the love for the game and allow each individual to come into their own. We simply ask for dedication, commitment, and being coachable.
We create opportunity for individuals to play competitively, develop, and commit to excellence on the field to win off the field.
Develop high character individuals who will be ready to progress in life through camaraderie, relationships, and competitiveness in sport and community engagement. Giving each individual the confidence and building blocks from common courtesy to developing positive relationships. Every Squirrel will be ready and confident to be whoever they desire to be in life.
Winning and losing will not be defined by the scoreboard. Winning is having positive experiences that change lives for the better. Winning will be defined by the level of quality characteristics each Squirrel acquires. Being a positive influence within the community through volunteering, picking up trash in the parks, helping when needed, and committing to excellence is winning. Being a Squirrel is earned through hard work and dedication.
